Eleanor’s Room

11pm

Eleanor De Singleton was born and lived all her life in this room. She was confined to this room night and day for seventeen years. She then died suddenly. There are two theories how. She may have died in childbirth or she may have been poisoned. There are no records of how she died, but there is a death certificate written in Latin. I cannot read Latin so I don’t know what happened here!

It is not a fireplace; instead it was a small hole in which a child was placed to listen in on secret conversations. The child would have been hidden behind a fireguard or something similar.

There is also a priest hole in this room. It is believed to be big enough for two people and is against one of the outer walls.
